1984 is a fu*king nightmare

A very plausible one at that.

That is how I describe this book to anyone, it’s not something I can or will ever recommend to someone who genuinely has a vivid imagination, because despite the fact that this book has almost no gore in it or any other conventional thing that might be triggering to individuals, it triggered me, it triggered me in ways I haven’t ever felt before

I do not say this lightly when I tell people that post this book I genuinely had a feverish episode of psychosis symptoms. I remember laying down on my bed with 103 fever (seasonal flu) and I wished to turn around in the bed, very normal thing to do — but i couldn’t.

I kept thinking to myself “Big Brother is watching”, “I mustn't turn around or they’ll report me to the Thought Police” and looking back to it, yes the fever did make things seem very out of place but that fear I felt was real at that time. My mind could think of nothing else but this book for days on end. I am not the same and I don’t think I can ever be.

It is to no exaggeration to say that 1984 is one of the greatest works of fiction of all time, it has earned the spot and deserves to keep it.

I will write about Crime and Punishment next.
